America’s best ham radio quote ;)
“America’s quiet warriors are the legion of ham radio operators, 700,000 of them, who are always at ready for backup duty in emergencies – amateur, unpaid, uncelebrated, civilian radio operators, during and after floods and fires and tornadoes. After the 9/11 attacks, hams were indispensable in reuniting friends and families. Most recently it was they who expedited the search for debris after the Columbia Explosion, and right now, at this moment, they are involved in homeland security to a greater degree than you would want me to make public.” ~Paul Harvey
Des Moines amateur radio get togethers
Greetings fellow hams!
Beginning Saturday, September 10 (yes, it’s the Iowa/Iowa State game…), and continuing once a month (or more) while the weather is nice, ALL hams and their families (plus anyone interested in amateur radio), are invited to an amateur radio get together at Brook Run Park, 4901 NE 38th Avenue in Des Moines, beginning at 12 noon and ending at 6:00 pm!!
http://www.dmgov.org/Departments/Parks/Pages/BrookRun.aspx
There will be a grill available at the park if you want to bring some meat to be grilled, your own ready-made dish, and/or beverages!
Playground equipment is available for the kids…
An HF set may be available some of the time, and Talk-in will be on the W0TWR 145.310 (PL Tone 114.8) repeater!!
During the winter months, we will naturally be looking for a place to gather… if anyone has any ideas now (or down the road) as to where we can do this at NO or low-cost, please email Matt Wilson!
Thank you, and DO pass the word on!!!

Cycling and Amateur Radio
Hey all,
I love cycling, and one of my NEW favorite things to do is monitor amateur radio repeaters while out on my mountain bike! I can be found on the following Des Moines, Iowa repeaters: W0TWR 145.310 and W0TWR 444.675.
Here is a pic of my 2009 Specialized Rockhopper and Kenwood TH-F6A!
